A shape gets built by combining small latex balloons into a form and using foil where the design needs a hard edge or a printed face. The turtles above are that: latex doing the body of the garland, foil carrying the character.
Big and simple builds cleanly. Small and intricate does not. That is the honest rule.
What lands in this category
Oversized numbers and letters
Two ways to do it. Foil numbers arrive as a single clean shape and read well standing beside an arch, which is the usual milestone birthday setup. Frames filled with balloons read bigger in photos and let the palette carry through the number itself. Graduations, 30ths, 50ths and anniversaries are the common reasons.
Themed sculptures
Animals, characters, seasonal shapes, logos. Sea turtles across a storefront ceiling. Jack o lanterns and ghosts worked into a Halloween garland. Gingerbread and candy canes built into a holiday arch. The sculpture usually sits inside a garland rather than standing alone, because it needs context to read.
Custom photo walls
You supply or choose the backdrop, usually a printed panel or a fabric drape, and it gets framed in balloons so the whole thing reads as one designed piece rather than a sheet with decorations near it. The frame is doing most of the work: it tells people where to stand and it makes the photos look deliberate.
Seasonal and holiday builds
Valentine's, Halloween, Christmas and the rest. Seasonal work tends to lean harder on foil shapes than a standard garland does, because the season is doing the theming and the shapes are how it gets said.
What we need to quote something custom
Reference images matter more here than on any other page, because custom means we are building to something you have already pictured. Screenshots, saved posts, a photo from a party you went to, a rough sketch on the back of an envelope. All of it works.
Beyond the picture, three things: how big you want it, where it is going, and what it has to survive. A sculpture that sits on a table for three hours indoors is a different build from one that has to stand outside in June.
We will tell you no
Some ideas do not work in balloons. Very fine detail, small text, and anything that needs to hold a precise shape for a long time in the heat are the usual ones. You will hear that before you book rather than after, along with the closest thing that does work.
What changes the price
- Complexity. Sculpted work takes longer per square foot than a garland, sometimes much longer.
- Size. Bigger is more materials, and past a certain point it also means a frame.
- Foil and specialty stock. Character foils, oversized numbers and printed shapes are ordered per job.
- Backdrops. Printed panels and drapes add material cost and hanging time.
- Lead time. Custom orders need longer, because specialty stock has to arrive before anything can be built.
